Simplys: Vegetarian mecca

It's 12:25pm on any given weekday and I’m fighting my way to the counter through a crowd of women. Clutching their oversized handbags with one arm and frantically salad selecting with the other, the healthy goodness is packed into clear containers to be shipped back to the office. I’m sure you’ve guessed by now (or read the title of this review) that I'm at Simplys.

Outback Spirit tomato and BBQ sauces

Just like bread needs butter, pies and sausages need sauce. Over the long weekend I had my fare share of snags (and then some) and they were topped off by some legendary "real Australian sauce" from the folks at Outback Spirit.

Sin Sweet Chilli Sauce

We were given a bottle of Sin Sweet Chilli Sauce to test out last week, this sauce is made right here in Darwin by Craig and Amy over at Zchilli. Over the past week I've been putting it on my chicken, in my noodles, on a pie, mixed with rice, dipped some pastries into it and had it straight up like a boss.

K-Tong Palmerston

It's not often I find myself in Palmerston, but I was out that way doing some photography last night and decided to spend my hard earned dosh at K-Tong restaurant. It's a mixture of Thai and Chinese cuisine, but mostly favouring the former. I've heard some good things about this place so was keen to dive into the food.

Souvlaki Grill and Chill

Another Darwin yiros gig... or so I thought. I popped my head in into Souvlaki Grill and Chill in Nightcliff and was pleasantly surprised by a very slick setup with plenty of staff and goodies to cover your breakfast, lunch and dinner needs. This is no ordinary yiros/souvlaki/kebab joint my friends.

Coffee Nut - For coffee nuts

I headed on over to Coffee Nut on the corner of Mitchell and Edmunds streets for my caffeine fix this morning. There is a coffee machine at work (wohoo!) but I was in town early so decided to go for a walk to try this place out. It's home of the infamous Kopi Luwak - a coffee made from beans digested and then shit out by civet cats in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Transit Takeaway Oriental Food

The Transit Take-Away on Mitchell Street used to be my go to place for cheap food in a hurry, but in a bitter sweet twist of fate and fortune, I changed jobs and left the Mitchell Centre for greener pastures. For what must have been well over several centuries, this hole in the wall take away was run buy a cute little husband and wife team in what must be the most low key and neat kitchen the culinary world has ever seen

The Hot Dog lady: Still epic

Finger licking good hot dogs are on offer for those heading past the Berrimah line, just look for The Hot Dog lady trailer and a big line of cars at the United Fuel servo at Coolalinga on the weekends.

The Barra Bar - Fish and chippies

Continuing my slow search for the best fish and chips in Darwin, The Barra Bar get's the Darwin Foodies treatment today. They have just moved into a fancy new premises just opposite the Mitchell Centre on Mitchell Street, I wonder if the food is just as nice?

Cornucopia Museum Cafe

With the dry season weather kicking in, what better way to enjoy the cool breezes on offer than with a big hearty meal and a warm cup of coffee from Cornucopia Museum Café. I believe they are under new ownership now and the staff behind the counter were very enthusiastic and were thorough in spruiking what was on offer.

Finnegan's Gourmet Fish and Chips

Over on our Facebook page, Finnegans Gourmet Fish and Chips in Nightcliff got a few nods for best fish and chips in Darwin whilst fellow Darwin Foodie writer Emma constantly blows their trumpet too. Time to go check it out.

Seafood on Cullen

Seafood on Cullen is one of three buffets in Darwin and probably the largest with heaps of indoor and outdoor seating available. With lots of seafood and different cuisines represented, there's surely something here that you'll be able to indulge on.

The Boat Shed

There was some office banter about The Boat Shed in Cullen Bay Darwin doing a ripper breakfast. I'm not in that area at such hours of the day, but I did managed to pop over on the weekend to try out some lunch. The sign outside says coffee house, but it was much too hot for that and I had plenty of sleep the night before, so I was just here for the food today.

Vietnamese pho down: Ruby Restaurant

My quest to find the best Vietnamese pho in Darwin (City) reaches its second leg at Ruby Restaurant in Smith Street Mall. It was our very own Heather's birthday on Monday so the whole office headed on over for some Vietnamese awesomeness.

Prickles Restaurant - Tex-Mex

Hola amigos! Prickles in Parap Shopping Village, is as far as I know, the only Texan/Mexican restaurant in Darwin. These guys have been around for ages and have built quite the following, with all tables filled every time I've been there.

Vietnamese pho down: Saigon Star

Lunch today I was feeling like something nice and warm. Saigon Star on Smith Street wasn't too far away so I plonked myself down for this $10.50 bowl of Vietnamese beef noodle soup AKA pho. Price wise it's pretty good - you get big bowl of delicate beef stock, sliced beef and a bowl of herbs to pluck and throw in.

Bar Zushi

After the review of Go Sushi Train in Darwin City, it is only appropriate that Bar Zushi in Casuarina gets the same treatment. One of the most popular eats in Casuarina, I often find myself grabbing a seat here at some stage during a shopping trip.

Go Sushi Train

There isn't much choice for sushi in the Darwin CBD, you've got Takagi Sushi which I reviewed previously and Go Sushi Train which gets some lovin' today. They've been around many years now and have proven very popular with the lunch time crowd. Indeed, if you want to dine in you better get in before the 12 o'clock rush.
